The Northampton & Lamport Railway presents....

Northampton & Lamport Railway

Recreating the 1940s experience of life on the Home Front during World War Two

Northampton & Lamport Railway

25th & 26th September 2010

We invite you to visit for our seventh Railway at War event at Chapel Brampton as we travel back in time to 1940s wartime Britain. Seventy years ago Britain stood alone and the threat of an enemy invasion was very real.

The railways played a very important part in World War II and the Railway at War event remembers the courage, hardships and endurance of our parents, grandparents and even great grandparents on the Home Front.

In particular this year we remember those who fought and died in the Battle of Britain in 1940. Some of our re-enactors will be dressed as RAF service personnel in honour of those who served.

Members of the general public are encouraged to attend the event in period dress and many of our visitors wear 1940's civilian clothing or military uniform. Don't forget to bring your gas mask!

The Local Defence Volunteers, later the Home Guard, were formed on 14th May 1940 following a wireless broadcast by the Minister of War, Anthony Eden.

The local platoon will be carrying out documentation and identity checks on visitors, together with searches for enemy invaders. They will also be mounting a regular guard on the vehicles and munitions stored at the station.

Local schools will be encouraged to bring parties of children dressed as evacuees during the weekend to experience a little glimpse of what life was like in the 1940s.

Live 1940s music and dance will add to the atmosphere each day and there will be a Saturday evening dance featuring The Rutland Big Band and your host DJ JP. (See below for details)

Our Real Ale bar will be open from Friday evening and our catering facilities will be open throughout the weekend. Why not forget rationing and come along to sample some good wholesome food. "Dodgy Dave" is certainly making the most of it!

There will be a number of  civilian and military  vintage vehicles on site during the event. There will also be several displays by re-enactor groups and exhibitors which take place throughout the weekend.

 Open: 10.00am - 5.00pm, last admission 4.00pm

Admission: Adult £7.00, Child £4.00, Senior Citizen £6, Family (2+2) £18 all inclusive of two train rides
