Mk 1 Brake Open Second (BSO). Built at Doncaster in 1955 to Lot Nº 30170. with 39 seats and 1 toilet. Initially allocated to the Eastern Region, 9225 was later transferred to the L.M.R. and converted to dual heat/dual brakes for use on Motorail services.
M9225 was withdrawn from passenger service in 1983 and transferred to departmental use as a stock movement brake coach (QTX) numbered ADB 977135. In this form it ran between Wembley Inter-City depot and Derby Works accompanying stock sent for repair but was out of use and heavily cannibalised by 1990.
The hulk was purchased for use on the NLR in early 1991 and moved by rail from Wembley to Old Oak Common from where it was transported to Pitsford by road on 26th March. Since arriving on the NLR restoration has involved the provision of replacement seats, luggage racks, lighting, toilet and interior panelling obtained from scrap yards.
