Type2 Class 26 Nº 26010 Bo-Bo

Originally commissioned as D5310 in January 1959, this locomotive was sent new to 34B Hornsey for duties on Great Northern Lines suburban services from Kings Cross. However, it soon moved north to Scotland where it spent the rest of its working life.

D5310 was a member of the original "Pilot scheme" batch of 20 locomotives ordered from Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company of Smethwick. The locomotive is also one of only two preserved examples to retain the original style of bogies with transverse leaf springs. Arrived at NLR 28th January 1995 and was started for the first time on July 14th 1995.

A full review of the Class 26 is given in Sulzer Diesel Locomotives of British Rail by Brian Webb.

26010 operating its first train in preservation 10th October 1998.
