This is an example of the
most common shunting type of locomotive in Britain. It is based on a design of
an LMS shunter.
The class 08 was first introduced by British Rail in 1953 and were made until
1962, with many examples still used on the national network. These locomotives
have a top speed of only 15-20 mph, but can move trains of any size used in
Britain. They have a 400 hp English Electric engine with transmission from two
English Electric motors, giving an impressive tractive effort of 35,000 lb.
It arrived at the Northampton & Lamport Railway from Tysley on the 11th August
2005.
