Built in 1949, this 0-4-0 Ruston 88DS class diesel locomotive was originally "Nº 2" and went new to the British Electricity Authority at Birchills Power Station, Walsall.

The loco was transferred to the CEGB Nechells Power Station at Waswood Heath, Birmingham during November 1977 where it was renumbered to "Nº 1".

In June 1981, "Nº 1" moved to Rail & Track Supplies of Wolverton before being resold to Thomas E. Gray & Co. Ltd. of Burton Latimer. Arrived at NLR on 6th September 1984.
