The 1996 second visiting locomotive is no stranger to the area having spent its industrial career just up the line at Brixworth. The locomotive was one of the three the standard gauge Bagnall 0-6-0 saddle tanks provided by the Ministry of Supply in 1942 to help increase the output of the Lamport Ironstone quarries in the Brixworth and Scadwell area.
When the quarries closed down in 1969 Nº3 was bought by the Leicester Industrial Locomotive Society and operated at a number of preservation sites. It has however been resident on the "Battlefield Line" at Shackerstone for some years now and after tentative enquiries to see if the locomotive would be available met with favourable response it seemed to be the obvious choice for a visiting engine for the 1996 steam gala weekend.
It is also interesting to note that Pitsford Nº 2 survives in preservation at Elsecar near Barnsley although renamed "Earl Fitzwilliam" - now there's a thought for the future, Pitsford and Lamport together!
