About Northampton & Lamport Railway
The Northampton & Lamport Railway (NLR) is a steam and heritage diesel tourist railway in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside. We are located just 5 miles from Northampton we are within easy reach of the motorway network.
The NLR follows the alignment of the old Northampton to Market Harborough line, which closed in 1981.
Today, we have a running line that is approximately 1½ miles long and one station, at Pitsford and Brampton. At the station you will find:
- Free on-site parking (including disabled bays)
- Platform 3 Buffet – serving hot and cold drinks, snacks and freshly prepared hot food
- Souvenir Shop
- Toilets (including disabled)
- Trains roughly every hour (see events and ticket pages for up-to-date timetables)
Running parallel with the railway is the Brampton Valley Way (BVW), a 14-mile linear park from Northampton to Market Harborough (along the whole of the old railway line). The BVW provides a lovely easy flat walk (or cycle) through the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, as well as a great vantage point to see the trains running past! It makes a great addition to any visit.
The NLR is run purely by volunteers. This includes everything from running the trains and station facilities, to restoring the enchanting old rolling stock, to restoring and extending the line.
Northampton and Lamport Railway is open Sundays and our main operating season runs March to October, offering a wide range of events using both steam and diesel engines. We also operate a very popular Santa Specials season in the run up to Christmas, plus Mince Pie Specials between Christmas and New Year. Check out our event pages for more details.
