M94071 is a BR General Utility Van (GUV) built by BR with the underframe built by York Works and the body and final assembly undertaken by St Rollox Works, Glasgow and sits on BR2 bogies.
The vehicle had an initial allocation to the Midland region.

The vehicle is fitted with heaters that are attached to the internal ceiling, due to its use as a newspaper van. It is also electrically through wired.

When built the vehicle was numbered M86544 but as various modifications were carried out a renumbering to M93544 occurred. A further renumbering to M94071 occurred in September 1985.

During its mainline career M94071 moved around considerably, with its final allocations at Derby in 1989, Bristol Marsh Junction in 1992 before being stored at Crewe after withdrawal in March 1995 prior to preservation at the Northampton & Lamport Railway.
