The Class 47 is a Brush design and 47205 is one of 512 examples built between 1962 and 1968. It is a class that has proven to be a very successful mixed traffic diesel locomotive.
The Class 47s could be seen all over the railway network coping well with work ranging from a little light shunting around goods yards to the fastest express passenger trains running the length and breath of the British Isles. Members of the class can still be seen working passenger and freight trains throughout the country.
47205 was purchased from C. F. Booths and arrived at the Northampton & Lamport Railway from Southampton Maritime on the 7th December 2004, after being withdrawn from mainline service by Freightliner.
During overhaul works in 2010 it was discovered that cab parts from 47014 had been used to repair 47205 at the № 1 (Cooler group) end of the locomotive.
