VAA 45 ton GLW Covered Goods Van № 200026

45 ton GLW Covered Goods VAA van № 200026, built in 1969 by BR at its Ashford works as part of the № B787480-B787699 number series, but BR changed its air-braked vehicle numbering scheme to be № 200000 to 200208 for lot № 3685 as well as reducing the total number of vehicles built as part of this lot/order number, prior to any vehicles being finished.

The VAA, originally coded as COV AB, was the first general-purpose air-braked van built by BR, their main use being on the new ABN (later Speedlink) services.

Originally fitted with a vacuum brake through pipe this feature was removed in latter years hence the VAA TOPS code rather than a VAB coding.

A profile and history of the VAA van and the similar VBA, VCA & VDA vans can be found at www.ltsv.com
