The Northampton & Lamport Railway (N-LR) is excited to announce that it has been awarded grants to help complete the ½ mile southern extension to Boughton Crossing (by the A5199).
Grants from Daventry District Council (£15,000) and the EU’s LEADER Fund (£45,160) will cover 80% of the cost of refurbishing a low 7-arch viaduct and a cast iron beam cattle creep and constructing a new 5 coach station platform adjacent to The Windhover Pub, who have very kindly provided some land to help make space for a future station building.
In order to complete the project the N-LR itself needs to contribute a further £18,000 and is appealing for donations to help achieve this.
Extra volunteers are urgently needed also, especially anyone with bricklaying experience.
Please contact us if you can help in any way.
Work started on the extension about 10 years ago and most of the track is down and signalling is installed.
Bridge 11 is the southern limit of the existing operating line and trains cannot run across it until it has been restored to passenger-carrying standards.
Work on the platform will start in early 2019 and subject to obtaining a Transport and Works Order, it is hoped to open the extension by Spring 2020.
Work on the bridge will start in early June 2019 and volunteers for weekday working parties will be needed.
If you would like to donate to the southern extension project, or are able to volunteer and help make it happen, please contact the N-LR at email@example.com or send cheques payable to ‘Northampton and Lamport Railway CIO’ to :
