It is that time of year again…!

Our Santa Specials bookings are now on sale. However, due to the “new normal”, we have made some changes to the event to help you celebrate Christmas at the Northampton & Lamport Railway.

Ride along with Santa

Unfortunately, we have had to come to the decision to close the Grotto this year. Instead, Santa will be on the train, riding along greeting and chatting to our passengers as you travel through the Northamptonshire countryside.

We shall still be offering our normal complimentary refreshments of sherry and mince pies to the adults (soft drink alternative available) and biscuits and soft drinks for the children, onboard the train. These will need to be ordered when you make your booking so we can arrange your table ready for when you come aboard.

Book a table

Due to the social distancing and hygiene requirements brought in for Covid-19, we needed to make some changes to how we sell our seats. Passengers can now book tables for up to four people, including adults, children and infants) for £55  (£65 on 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th December). This price is the same no matter how many are at the table (up to 4 people). Parties larger than 4 will need to book multiple tables. Occupied tables are kept 2m apart, but this does reduce the capacity on our trains, so availability will be limited.

After your train ride, all children will collect a present from the platform before you leave to enjoy the rest of your Christmas.

We are Covid confident

We are proud to be an official AA ‘Covid-19 Confident’ attraction. This means it has been independently verified that we have in place all the necessary risk assessments, safety measures and staff training to operate safely. We have also signed the Covid Confident Charter, giving our customers the confidence that we are a responsible venue, operating fully in line with the UK Government’s guidelines (as well as UKHospitality and respective trade association guidelines), and are committed to updating our procedures and measures as guidelines change.

FAQ’s

We are a party of 5 does that mean we need to book two tables?

All our tables can fit 4 people around it. So in this instance, you will need to book a second table. Tables are limited on each train and we can only have so many on each train to ensure we remain in line with restrictions.

When you book your table you will be asked to choose the age ranges for your party so we can make sure each table has the right number of refreshments and we have the right number of presents waiting for each child.

How many people can sit at each table?

Only 4 people can be at a table and include infants/babies, children and adults.

Does the price vary depending on the number of children?

No, you pay a fixed price for the table regardless of whether there is 1 adult and 3 children, or 3 adults and 1 child. All children will get a present, regardless.

What ages get a present?

All children 16 and under will received a present. Please select the correct age option when making your booking.

What if we have special dietary or other requirements?

Please email bookings@nlr.org.uk after you’ve made your booking and we will do all we can to sort you out.

Will it definitely be a steam train?

All our Santa Specials are to be hauled by a steam loco. However, old machines can be temperamental and may develop faults. We will do all we can to make sure your train is steam hauled. However, we reserve the right for a heritage diesel to step in if the steam loco needs repairs.

Do we have to wear face coverings on the train?

At the time of writing, current Government rules mean that all passengers have to wear face coverings on the train. However, exemptions include:

  • Children under the age of 11
  • A person who cannot put on, wear, or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment or disability (within the meaning of section 6 of the Equality Act 2010), or without severe distress.

Is advance booking essential?

Yes, social distancing rules mean we have to strictly limit the number of people on each train. This is for the safety of our visitors, as well as our volunteers. Also, most years our trains also sell out prior to the day, so advance booking is essential to avoid disappointment.
